Calling All

Women Fronted Bands

and

All Woman Bands!

What Makes YOU An Influential Woman/Women In Rock?

1.  Why do you think you are an influential woman/women in rock?

2.  Do you have a specific style that makes you different than other women in rock?  Is this the only thing that makes you special or are there other attributes?

3.  Who are your influences and why?

Answer these 3 questions in an email to Cynfully Luscious at cynluscious@cox.net along with an mp3 of your music.  This feature will run the entire month of April, so make sure that you get in your email quickly!  Each Friday during the Sonic Garden, Cynfully Luscious will pick the best email and play that band's song LIVE on the air.  How cool is that!

The first show that will air this feature will be May 1.  Sonic Garden is presented LIVE from the Mesa Broadcaster for Women Rock Radio at 6pm Pacific/9pm Eastern.  So be there to see if your band get played LIVE on the air!!

The Sonic Garden Presents...Girl Groups That Defined Rock And Roll

April 6, 2009
Once upon a time, there were women singing, their voices created a turning point in music.  This was the moment that rock and roll was being created, nurtured and presented a resonating chord across the world.

Who were these great girl groups?

The Angels - this is not the Australian group, but the great girl group of the 1960's who's song "My Boyfriend's Back" was a number 1 hit.  After it's release this girl group continued recording but never had the success they had with "My Boyfriend's Ba...

Sonic Garden Presents...The Forgotten Women Of Punk

April 6, 2009
1970...The Vietnam War, Manson Family Murders, Political Discontent.  Civil rights, woman's and gay rights were severely contested.  Urban decay was being experienced in many American cities.

In these trying times of war, activism, hippies and general apathy in the music scene...in walk progressive women that created spaces not only for themselves but for others in the punk and indie music scene.  It is sad that so many of these women that have shaped rock and roll music for today's generat...

I Am Woman...I Am A Rocker...I Am Censored...

April 6, 2009

While the media is snapping up this story because of the political issues and "women rebelling against society"...I am telling this story because of the true value of the music and the extraordinary courage of these women.

This excerpt from Middle East Online...

Four students from the University of Jeddah, rock fans, have just made their voice heard, voluntarily in English, to pass their message to the whole world: they have launched the first female rock music band in Saudi Arabia, a challenge...

The Universal Languages...Music and Mathematics and Love

April 6, 2009
Remember when you were in elementary school, went to the music room and your mind was taken to another space and time?  This is not happening in many schools anymore due to budget cuts.  More and more schools are cutting these "NON-ESSENTIAL" programs because their funding by the Federal Government does not even cover their operating costs for the entire year.

Parents...demand music in your child's classroom.  It is an important learning tool.  As a parent myself, I remember teaching my ch...

The Kids In The Band

April 6, 2009
I started in band in the 5th Grade at Winneconne Elementary School.  My dad had been in band all of his middle school and high school years.  He was a very accomplished trumpet player and I wanted to play trumpet too.  However, I was not a very good trumpet player...my lips were not designed to play such a small mouthpiece, I then tried the Baritone Horn.  Of course my first impression of this instrument was..."OMG", "It is a boy's instrument", and "How am I going to carry this 9 blocks t...

Ear Candy

April 6, 2009
met Nate Anderson this weekend at the Chicks With Picks Festival, he is the founder/president of a really cool non-profit organization called Ear Candy.  As many of you know I am a staunch supporter of music programs in schools, as is Nate.

Ear Candy raises funds and awareness via charity concerts, music camps, music programs, donations and grants.  They also have an instrument drive to help to revive and create music programs in the community.

If you are reading this blog and are in the Ph...
